A Valentine’s Message You’ll Love:
Dark Chocolate Is Good for You
According to a University of California study, eating a 1.6-ounce bar of dark chocolate every day is actually good for you. Chocolate is derived from plants, just like the fruits and vegetables we consume to maintain healthy hearts. Dark chocolate contains a much higher cocoa content than its milk, bittersweet and semi-sweet counterparts, it also contains more flavonoids. Flavonoids act as antioxidants which keep cholesterol from gathering in your blood vessels, reduce your risk of blood clots and lower your blood pressure.
While standard chocolate manufacturing destroys nearly half of the flavonoids, dark chocolate suppliers have learned how to retain up to 95% of this coveted antioxidant. Remember that moderation matters, especially since chocolate is also loaded with calories: we suggest sticking to the recommended 1.6-ounce serving!
