Portland Public Schools offers an excellent way for you to set aside more of your income in a retirement account to supplement your Social Security and PERS/OPSRP retirement benefits. Any contributions you make reduce your taxable income now, and allow you to save money with pre-tax dollars. Of course, you'll pay taxes when you withdraw those savings after you retire, but it may be reasonable to expect that by then you will be in a lower tax bracket. ALL PORTLAND PUBLIC SCHOOLS EMPLOYEES ARE ELIGIBLE TO CONTRIBUTE TO A 403(b) ACCOUNT.
You are spending the money anyway, why not have it be tax-free?
Portland Public Schools provides a benefit plan that allows you to use tax-free dollars for HEALTHCARE and/or CHILDCARE.
